20 Tips for Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

Following the Patriot Day memorials on both television and social media, it is fitting to remember some often overlooked but still very important basics: Recognizing the brevity and sanctity of life, living to the fullest and achieving your dreams given the time we’re allotted. Here are some key tips for accomplishing this.

In his classic 2007 “last lecture” (77 minutes), Professor Randy Pausch takes us along with him on many adventures and shares the resulting invaluable lessons. I hope you take the time to enjoy this. These are my 20 favorite quotes from this inspiring and enlightening talk.

  1. We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand. If I don’t seem as depressed or morose as I should be, sorry to disappoint you.
  2. It’s important to have specific dreams.

  9. These are the kind of things that I think everybody ought to be doing, helping others.
  10. I’m dying and I’m having fun.  And I’m going to keep having fun every day I have left because there’s just no other way to play it.
  11. You just need to decide whether you’re a Tigger or you’re an Eeyore.
  12. Never lose the childlike wonder.
  13. Help others.
  14. Never give up.
  15. Focus on other people, not on yourself.
  16. Get a feedback loop; and listen to it.
  17. Show gratitude.
  18. Don’t complain; just work harder.
  19. Be good at something; it makes you valuable.
  20. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you.
